It could totally be a commentary on the state of the world....OUR WORLD IN SNOWY MN! True: juxtaposition of the cheerful with the gothic.

I for one enjoy mocking the darkness. It makes me happy.

...I can hear the emo kids scream giddy with angst even now...

[...] I think Jason is quoting Duffy Robbins here, but I am not certain. Still, it sums up in a catchy little phrase the whole of my post “Creating a Relevant and Distinct Culture” from yesterday. This post, called “Failings of Cultural Responses” balances out some of the statements Jason made yesterday. [...]

Glad to see you are blogging frequently!!!

I think I have this same beef with the emergent - not that you have a beef...but the whole "throwing the baby out with the bathwater.." thing. We are called to be light and salt. To be different. I hate hate hate the suggestion that we must accept darkness to reach people. We are not to accept wrong things...love the sinner, hate the sin maybe? There are so many churches out there right now claiming to be reaching the homosexual or the prostitute, but it's because they are watering down the gospel enough that it's not offensive to those who are committing the wrong. There is indeed more to knowing Jesus than just "don't do this or that," but there does come a time when we are going to be called to take a stand. I can assume you don't read Francine Rivers - sort of a more feminine Christian writer, but she writes a book called "And the Shofar Blew." It addresses this quite well....

I listen to whole albums all the time. I think that sometimes that is the only way to go because a lot of times there are musical or lyrical themes that flow through the entire album and if you put it on shuffle you can miss some of that creative magic.

I'm a shuffler...itunes has totally modified my listening habits. However, there are times when i have a hankerin' for a whole album of Phoebe Snow (the one Luke burned for me from vinyl for my birthday), the Mike Doughty you gave me, and (of course!) the blaxploitation soundtrack.

Bob is selling his Ipod. Don't know how much for.

I saw that musical on Broadway in college and it was very moving. Glad you got to see it. If I wasn't always broke, I was going to all by myself just to have seen it again before it's not touring anymore.
